Hearing loss and mental health

Hearing loss can really take its toll on your mental health and has been linked to anxiety and depression.

Withdrawing from society, avoiding social events and isolating yourself away from others could all be signs that hearing loss is affecting your mental health.

Hearing loss and quality of life

Some surveys* from Europe show that most hearing aid users experience an increased quality of life. Studies found that people using hearing aids tended to be less depressed and slept better than non users.

Hearing aids can provide many benefits to improving the quality of your life such as helping you stay connected to others around you and improving the brain's ability to understand speech in noisy surroundings.

Hearing loss and cognitive decline

Studies have shown* that using hearing aids correctly can lower risks of depression and dementia. Researchers found that people with hearing loss who weren’t using hearing aids had a higher risk of depression and dementia than those who did use hearing aids.

The research suggested that the improvements were due to them being able to be more involved with everyday life.
